Carrier Introduces the Newest Generation of AquaForce® with PUREtec™ Refrigerant

Controls, HVAC, Press Releases, Refrigeration Carrier, Controls

MONTLUEL, France – July 22, 2016 – Carrier recently introduced the newest generation of AquaForce chillers and heat pumps using HFO R-1234ze, a very low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant and part of the Carrier PUREtec family of long-term refrigerant solutions. Carrier, which operates in France as Carrier France, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The selected refrigerant for screw chillers, HFO R-1234ze has a GWP of less than 1* and is not subject to the hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) phasedown required by the European Union’s F-gas regulation. As a result of this regulation, the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning industry must move to a new generation of refrigerants that will not only protect the ozone layer but also have a very low global warming impact.

“AquaForce with PUREtec refrigerant is a trusted product already used in several installations throughout Europe, which has received a seal of approval from the segment. There already are more than 20 projects using AquaForce with PUREtec refrigerant in Switzerland, Norway and France. In the coming months, the very low GWP chillers and heat pumps will continue to support a growing need,” said Didier Genois, director, engineering and marketing, Carrier HVAC Europe.

PUREtec replaces the HFC R-134a, which was previously used for screw chillers and heat pumps. Comparatively, AquaForce with PUREtec refrigerant delivers energy efficiency gains of up to 5 percent compared to units using R-134a, reducing greenhouse gas footprint by up to 10 percent and contributing to green building certification such as LEED®, BREEAM® and HQE™. The full range of screw air-to-water and water-to-water chillers and heat pumps offers both variable and fixed-speed technology, from 270kW to 1320kW in cooling and from 300kW and 1900kW in heating.

The combination of PUREtec refrigerant solutions and Carrier technology redefines heat pumps operating limits to provide hot water of up to 85°C. This significant extended operating range allows the new 61 XWH-ZE heat pump to meet all high temperature heating applications, such as district heating, space heating, sanitary hot water production or process heating.
